Bilt Pairs John Legend’s ‘Muse’ Campaign With $850 Student-Housing Awards

Bilt’s September 25 collaboration with John Legend pairs promotions for his forthcoming album, Muse, with a student-housing offer. Bilt says it aims to help 50 students at four universities; program administrator Scholarship America lists a one-time $850 award for selected students with eligible off-campus housing expenses. The campaign connects Bilt’s Rent Day promotion to a direct housing-cost benefit, though the student award has its own application.

Scholarship America’s program terms say applications opened September 25 and are scheduled to close October 8 at 4 p.m. Eastern, or earlier if available funds are awarded. Applicants must attend the University of Pennsylvania, Morehouse, Central State or Wilberforce; live off campus with documented eligible rent; experience housing insecurity; and receive need-based aid. The application requires a lease and course schedule. Bilt’s goal of helping 50 students is a plan, rather than a count of awards already made.

One collaboration, distinct offers

For members, Bilt is offering a limited-edition Muse vinyl preorder, a chance to win a month of rent through Rent Free and a chance to attend a planned October 21 show in San Francisco. Members will also be able to donate points beginning on October Rent Day. These are separate activities: a prize chance is not a guaranteed rent payment, and the student-housing award is administered through Scholarship America.

The timing gives the album several points of contact with Bilt’s audience: the vinyl preorder began September 25, Rent Day activities follow, and Bilt dates the planned Muse release to October 23. For eligible students, the more immediate date is the application deadline, which may arrive before October 8 if the program’s available funds are awarded.
